How is the Navajo Indian nation organized? The Navajos live on a reservation, which is land that belongs to them and is under their control. Today, they are members of the Colorado River Indian Tribes of the Colorado River Indian Reservation, which is made up of Mohave, Chemehuevi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. The first expansion of the territory occurred on October 28, 1878, when President Rutherford Hayes signed an executive order pushing the reservation boundary 20 miles to the west. The Navajo Indians are very well known for performing peyote healing ceremonies.
